Outside Reading: Blaine Fontana

Bio
Blaine Fontana is a painter/graphic designer from Portland, Oregon. He is originally from Seattle Washington and had an interest in art from a young age. When he was a teenager, he commuted to two different schools to study graphic design, photography, sculpture and life drawing. After high school he took to the streets and was a graffiti artist for some time. He ended up in and out of different community colleges until he decided to enroll in The Otis College or Art and Design in L.A. During college he worked as an art director at a design firm and also designed for a fashion magazine. In January 2003 he started concentrating on his painting full time and has really made a name for himself. Blaine in his wife started Fontana Studios which is a multi-media art and design studio in Portland, Oregon. His works have been published in a variety of publications, including iDN/Society 6, My Name Is, Sycamore Review, Soul Pancake, Mod Art, Hi-Fructose, and Juxtapoz. In addition to this, he's had over 12 solo shows and been in over 20 group exhibitions.

Paintings
I can't even begin to express how much I love his art and design. There is just an incredible sense of understanding that emanates from his work. An understanding of all the fundamentals of art and design. The craftsmanship is so careful and precise in his work as well. In addition to his precise craftmanship, I really like the whymsical sense to his subject matter. He creates this feeling with color and shapes but also with his content of divine symbolism of religious myths and worldly folklore.
